MIAMI -- Carlos Gomez added another impressive offensive performance during his breakout season. Nike Cortez Hombre Baratas . Gomez had four hits, including two triples, drove in three runs, and scored three runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. "He had a very big night, two triples," said Jonathan Lucroy, who drove in four runs. "Anytime you have a guy with that kind of speed and a ballpark this big, things like that are going to happen. He did very well for us tonight and a big part of the win." Gomez, a .247 hitter coming into the season, raised his batting average to .326 on the year with 11 home runs, eight triples, and 36 RBIs in 63 games. "He has put together quite a season so far," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "I had to move him into the third spot with (Ryan) Braun out and he just continues to have good at-bats. Hell get down two strikes and next thing I know hes going the other way, which is what the good hitters do. Hes been impressive." It was the eighth four-hit game in Gomezs career. Gomez had two unimpressive stints with the Mets and Twins before landing in Milwaukee in 2010. "He has learned a lot," Roenicke said. "Hes smarter, his approach is better so its playing more, but its also he has a better idea of what hes doing at the plate." His biggest play of the game came in the sixth. With the Brewers already leading 6-0, Gomez smacked a three-run triple, his third of the series, off Edgar Olmos to score three runs and scored on the play as Derek Dietrichs errant relay throw ended up in the stands. "I saw bases were loaded and tried to put contact on, I knew that guy threw really hard," Gomez said. "I was looking for something middle-away, put good contact on it, and I hit a triple." Jean Segura homered for the Brewers, who have won five of six. "The last week and a half weve been playing really good," Gomez said. "The starting pitching has been awesome. Youre more pumped up when you see the starting pitching be more consistent." Alfredo Figaro (1-0) pitched seven scoreless innings to earn his first victory since Sept. 26, 2009, at the Chicago White Sox. He retired 16 in a row at one point and struck out four. "That was the first win in a while even in Japan, no wins (in a while), so Im glad that I got the win and helped the team too," Figaro said. Both Gomez and Lucroy had bases-clearing triples as the two combined to go 12 for 24 with 12 RBIs in the three-game series. "Give those guys some credit, theyre swinging the bats good and thats a potent lineup right now thats got a lot of guys swinging the bat really well," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. It was the largest margin of victory for the Brewers this season. Miami starter Kevin Slowey (2-6) allowed six runs -- five earned -- and nine hits in five innings. He was on three days rest after he pitched seven scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory in Saturdays 2-1, 20-inning win over the Mets. "Todays game had less to do with rest and more to do with me executing pitches," Slowey said. Slowey is 0-4 with an 8.89 ERA in his past six starts. Lucroy gave the Brewers a 3-0 lead in the first with his three-run triple to right-centre as the ball rolled to the wall. Segura hit his 10th home run of the season in the third for a 4-0 advantage. Norichika Aoki and Lucroy added sacrifice flies in the fourth and fifth to push the lead to 6-0. Ed Lucas had two of Miamis five hits and Giancarlo Stanton drove in the Marlins only run in the ninth. Miller reached right to deflect Mikhail Grabovskis attempt with just over 2 minutes remaining in regulation, and then made two more saves in the shootout Sunday to give the Sabres a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Nike Presto Hombre . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football. . What general manager Dave Nonis called "short and productive" negotiations ended with Kessel signing a US$64-million, eight-year contract on Tuesday.SEATTLE - Nick Franklin has been in the major leagues for less than a month but hes already starting to become one of the Seattle Mariners most-trusted hitters in crucial situations. Franklin delivered a two-run single off Oakland reliever Ryan Cook in the eighth inning to lift the Mariners to a 7-5 win over the As on Saturday night. After a three-run home run from Raul Ibanez tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning, Brendan Ryan led off the eighth with a single off Cook (1-1) and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Endy Chavez reached with a bunt single to put runners at the corners and took second on indifference. Franklin then came through with the single to left field to score Ryan and Chavez to give the Mariners the lead. His three hits and three RBI matched career-highs and it was the first game-winning hit of his career. "He likes being up in those situations," manager Eric Wedge said. "I just like the way he plays so aggressively. He does it offensively. He does it defensively. He does it on the basepaths. I just think youre a better baseball player when you play with no fear and thats what weve seen from him so far." Yoervis Medina (2-2) worked 2 1-3 innings scoreless to close out the game. With the three hits against Oakland, Franklins average is up to .295 with seven doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI in 25 games. His ability to hit in critical spots is something his teammates are already noticing as well. "For him to be able to stay calm in those situations and for him to be able to stay disciplined like that is huge," Ibanez said. "Hes a really heads-up player. He plays very, very mature. "Hes been very impressive." Franklin said he just tries to stay relaxed and not allow the pressure of the moment to get to him. "Im just trying to put something in play, give ourselves a chance to score anything," Franklin said. "Its better to put the ball in play than to have a swing and a miss trying to hit a long ball." In his first game back from the disabled list, Franklin Gutierrez homered to right-centre field in his first at-bat to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Following walks by Justin Smoakk and Henry Blanco, Franklin came through with a two-out single to score Smoak and extend the lead to 2-0. Huarache Blancas Hombre. Oakland got a run back in the third, on Eric Sogards sacrifice fly. The Mariners chased As starter Dan Straily from the game in the fourth inning. Straily lasted 3 1-3 innings — the shortest outing of his career — while allowing six hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out five. "He just didnt have a good release point today," As manager Bob Melvin said. "He was teetering from the beginning: it was what, six hits and three walks in just over three inning. He just had a rough start." Jed Lowries bases-loaded single scored a pair to give the As a 3-2 lead in the fifth. Oakland added on in the seventh inning. Lowrie doubled and the Mariners elected to intentionally walk Yoenis Cespedes. After a Brandon Moss struck out, Medina relieved and Josh Donaldson and Josh Reddick each singled in a run to give the As a 5-2 cushion. The lead didnt last long as Seattle rallied in bottom half of the inning. Ibanez delivered a three-run home run into the right field seats off Jerry Blevins to knot the game at 5-5. Aaron Harang went five innings allowing six hits and three runs for the Mariners. He walked two and struck out three. Notes: Gutierrez went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his first game since being activated from the 60-day disabled list. The team placed OF Mike Morse on the 15-day DL with a strained right quad and designated OF Eric Thames to make room for Gutierrez on the 40-man roster. ... Mariners 3B Kyle Seager extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single in the seventh inning. ... In 11 games against Seattle this season, Lowrie is batting .436 with two home runs and 10 RBI. ...Melvin said catcher John Jaso may be out until after the teams off-day on Monday with a left hand abrasion.
